To the Yale Community,
Yale’s university-wide accreditation depends on regular regional review overseen by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE)—the successor organization to NEASC, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. Every ten years, a team of peer reviewers appointed by NECHE assesses Yale’s performance according to a set of Standards for Accreditation determined by consensus of the higher education community.
The backbone of the reaccreditation review is a thorough and candid self-study informed by extensive input from the university community. Chaired by Dean Chun, this self-study will culminate in a written report that Yale will submit to NECHE in advance of the review team’s visit to campus in November 2019.
We write today to share the details of our early planning and to invite your contributions to the self-study process. A new 2019 Yale Reaccreditation section of our website includes information on the advisory committees that we have convened to consider NECHE’s nine standards for accreditation, the mechanisms and opportunities for community input, and a timeline of pertinent dates. The visiting team membership, self-study report, and subsequent communications from NECHE will be posted to the site as they become available, as will opportunities to provide your input and suggestions in various meetings. In the meantime, and throughout the reaccreditation process, you can write to the self-study planning team via the Share Your Input form on the website.
Broad involvement of faculty and staff members across campus; undergraduate, graduate, and professional students; and the wider community will be essential to our presenting a self-study report that is comprehensive, introspective, and reflective of the full spectrum of insights and experiences that make up our university.
